Special programs:
Journey at Pechnaga hosted its annual Charity Golf Classic which raised $250,000 for Michelle’s Place, a local resource center for cancer patients and their families. It’s one of the most robust resource centers of its kind and attracts clients from across SouthernCalifornia, Arizona, Nevada and other further locations.
This marked the 4th year Journey at Pechanga hosted its Candy for Golf program. It’s geared toward parents who want to convince their kids to give up their Halloween candy. But in return, they get a free junior golf lesson. We have quite a few kids who have kept golfing with us after that initial lesson. The candy is collected, weighed and donated to Operation Gratitude, an organization in Southern California that packs and ships care packages to service members stationed overseas.
The instructors also launched their inaugural Golf for Girls program. The free sessions ran on weekends for spring break and during the summer. There were at least 15 participants in each session. Girls attending ranged in age from those who had just turned three years old to 9 year old girls. There were also a few boys who joined. We won’t leave anyone out who wants to play golf out. But having a girls-centric class allows them to focus more on the fundamentals, and makes them feel like they don’t needto compete with the boys. Often when they see their peers doing something, they too take a solid interest in it and are more likely to stick with it. We also brought in a special guest coach, Aimee Cho, a professional ladies golfer and YouTube celebrity with225,000 subscribers who shares her extensive knowledge and love of the game with her fans and viewers all over the world. The girls in the class adored her.
