SPECIAL PROGRAMMING:
First Tee
In 2017, Harborside assisted First Tee – Greater Chicago in expanding its footprint on the Southside of the city by adding classroom and office space for First Tee staff, in addition to providing access to its 57-acre practice facility. This new space proved to be invaluable when the pandemic made it impossible for people to gather in groups. The new space allowed First Tee Site Director Erika Shavers to continue instruction virtually during a time when kids were craving safe, recreational and social opportunities.
In September, First Tee – Greater Chicago opened the Harborside Youth Learning Center as the first fully dedicated First Tee youth golf space on Chicago’s South Side. Key features of the facility include a Foresight simulator, a dedicated learning space and upgraded technology. This learning center is about more than just golf; it’s about providing a space for kids and teens to grow both as golfers and as individuals. Programming will be offered here five days a week, all year round.

KemperSports Youth Golf Week:
As part of our ongoing commitment to making the game of golf more welcoming and accessible for youth players, Harborside helped kick off KemperSports’ inaugural Youth Golf Week with a Chicago Public Schools clinic with KemperSports community advisor Roger Steele. While this clinic represented just one component of the catalogue of programming we host annually, Youth Golf Week will become an annual initiative to introduce generations of young people to this great game.
