Ray Bikulcius: Introduce Golf Fitness to Any Environment

Ray Bikulcius is the Strength and Conditioning Coach at The Swing Bays in Parker, Colorado.

How It Works:

We opened The Swing Bays in June of 2022 with six TrackMan bays, an expansive indoor putting green, full-service bar, seven TVs, logoed merchandise and space to engage our clientele in a variety of fitness and performance-building topics. Although we are very social and entertainment-driven in the evenings, we have a customer base that utilizes our staff’s expertise during the day. This includes golf instruction with PGA Professionals Dustin Miller, the 2010 Iowa PGA Section Merchandiser of the Year for Public Facilities, and Scott Walter, the 1993 Southern California PGA Section Golf Professional of the Year. Both professionals bring decades of experience to our indoor facility and continually improve the skills of any golfer under their tutelage. With years of fitness, nutrition and mental training under my belt, I work with clients to increase strength and mobility, and condition their bodies to perform better on the golf course. I have also coached high school golf for six years, demonstrating an ability to develop our young athletes on the field of play, as well as in the gym. At The Swing Bays, we have a fitness space that includes mats, two dumbbell racks and a pulley machine. We have a junior program already in place that starts with a TPI strength and fitness assessment to give us a baseline for each client, upon which we will build and gauge progress. I get an idea of how they move and what they need to work on during that initial time together. This Golf Winter Fitness Combine program is conducted with groups of three individuals and includes 60-minute in-person sessions once per week, with a required workout provided using the TPI Pro app to be done at home or local gym at least three times in between sessions.

How It Has Helped Our Business:

It is important that these high school-aged golfers attend their in-person sessions and are diligent in going through the workouts several times each week. There’s definitely a trust factor involved that they’ll do the homework and strive to improve within our program. We also have a younger group of juniors coming on Saturdays that will feed into our high school program. With several junior groups on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, we have another group of juniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays that split their time with me, as we concentrate on fitness topics, and Scott Walter in the hitting bays to focus on their golf swings and applicable statistics. This framework and fitness space is ideal for adult programming as well. We have TPI assessment days, during which we offer free assessments that will hopefully pique the interest of golfers who may not have considered the merits and benefits of golf fitness before. With these plans and goals in mind, we will continue to build our customer base and grow our business through golf and fitness.
