NFL Tradition Meets the Golf Course – The Cowboys Golf Club Practice Facilities and Course Renovations

By Vinnie Manginelli, PGA

Owned and operated by Arcis Golf, Cowboys Golf Club is a public golf facility in Grapevine, Texas. As the only NFL-themed golf venue in the country, Cowboy Golf Club offers stellar golf, unique practice facilities and all-world hospitality and special events.

The club recently reopened after an extensive “entertainment-driven transformation” that was led by renowned course architect Beau Welling, who redesigned the layout. Arcis’ in-house design and construction team oversaw implementation.

The multi-million-dollar renovation included a complete redesign of its championship course, including re-contouring of many of the greens and altering the bunkering as well to create a more sustainable golf course model. They also restored the greens to their original square footage after 25 years of Mother Nature’s wear and tear.

During the closure, the tee boxes and cart paths were rebuilt or reshaped as part of the comprehensive master plan. Welling refined design elements in the field while seven Arcis crews simultaneously executed the transformation, which touched every element of the course.

For instance, all 18 greens were expanded and modernized with dramatic contours and challenging new hole locations. Cowboys Golf Club is the first course in the country to feature Tif3D Bermuda on all 20 greens (18 holes plus practice facility). This was to ensure consistent, pristine championship-level conditions year-round.

They rebuilt five sets of tees with a classic square design, while every greenside bunker complex was repositioned to better frame the greens and elevate the short-game challenge posed to its golfers.

Architectural styling and bunkering features were dramatically reimagined. Notably, bunkers on the Par 3 third hole were relocated to the front of the green, allowing the hillside backdrop to prominently showcase the Dallas Cowboys’ classic star logo.

“We reimagined every aspect of this property to create unforgettable experiences for our members and guests,” said Blake Walker, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Arcis Golf. “From championship-caliber golf to immersive Cowboys-themed entertainment, visitors now enjoy a destination that blends world-class sport with the excitement and tradition of America’s Team.”

The practice facilities at Cowboys Golf Club are something special. The driving range is lined with a 60-yard-long game-used turf football field from the Cowboys’ home field at AT&T Stadium and culminates with an NFL regulation goal post about 100 yards out. They added 14 Toptracer stations that bring data, practice, competition and entertainment together and have Cowboys’ stars as targets at 150, 200 and 275 yards out.

The short-game practice area was also fully revamped, including the addition of new bunkering and expanded chipping areas for extensive practice and teaching opportunities. According to the press release issued by Arcis Golf, “These enhancements were strategically designed to further elevate Cowboys Golf Club as one of the premier corporate event, outing and sports-entertainment venues in the Dallas-Fort Worth region and beyond.”

“This transformation is about more than aesthetics — it’s about redefining and gamifying how people experience golf,” Walker added.

He also noted that Cowboys Golf Club now blends championship-caliber design with immersive entertainment in a way that reflects the power of the Dallas Cowboys brand and his company’s commitment to innovation. “It’s golf redefined, fan-inspired and built for families, players and guests.”

They also reimagined the short-game area and built a spectacular 18-hole putting course known as “The Huddle.” This amenity features an acre of Dallas Cowboys-blue turf, ensuring every moment is unique, unexpected and unforgettable. Each hole starts with the star logo, summoning the true Cowboys spirit.

When the golf is over, patrons can enjoy food and beverage offerings at The Huddle’s Airstream trailer, serving drinks like frozen margaritas and local beers, to go with signature barbacoa tacos and sausages crafted exclusively for Arcis Golf. The acclaimed Ring of Honor Kitchen & Bar (ROHK) features a bold Texas fusion menu, highlighting the freshest local ingredients and dry-aged meats. There’s a 23-foot smoker and wood-fire grill to provide the undeniable smoky flavors. Soon, Neapolitan pizzas will be fired to perfection in under two minutes. Guests can eat, drink and chat about their round on the Five Points Patio, overlooking the new event lawn, putting course and practice areas.

Regardless of where your football fealty lies, Super Bowl trophies, Tom Landry’s fedora and other historic Dallas Cowboy mementoes line the clubhouse interior and display cases, while stone markers throughout the course highlight milestone moments from the Cowboys’ rich history. You don’t have to be a Dallas Cowboys fan to enjoy the Cowboys Golf Club experience!
