Lynn Myers: Create an Instructional Video Featuring Your Junior Students

Lynn Myers, PGA, is Assistant Professional at Harbour Ridge Yacht & Country Club, in Palm City, Florida, and Director of the Junior Program at Bogeys Sports Park, in Richmond, Virginia.

Lynn Myers, PGA, on the importance of creating an instructional video featuring your junior students:
At Bogeys Sports Park, a public driving range and mini course, I create a color video with my voiceover in which I demonstrate an overview of the property, and my former junior team students demonstrate the basic golf skills. At the end of each summer junior camp session, I send a copy to all the camp participants, with photos and videos of their own swings from the last day attached. The unlisted 15-minute YouTube video is to be shared with parents and grandparents, and is not available to the public. It includes the individual student’s headshot with name, photo of the camper in good posture position at set up and a few swing photos. Students who attend camp several times are able to see their improvement over time. The kids love the videos, which I started doing four years ago.

Lynn Myers in the business impact of creating an instructional video featuring your junior students:
Each junior summer camp session lasts for one week, Monday through Friday, four hours a day. I take 20 juniors per week, boys and girls ages 6-13, and I have one assistant. The cost of a one-week camp session is $200, including the video. My returning camper percentage is high. And I derive extra revenue from friends and family who have seen the video – at least ten extra students per summer – including golfers who sign up for parent/child clinics or a series of four or six lessons. We also see parents, siblings and grandparents signing up for lessons as a result of the videos, for a total of about 50 extra lessons per summer, with an hourly lesson fee of $90. If a camper’s parents don’t play golf, they might come to me for a three-Saturday package to involve the parents and children in golf together. The cost is $240 for three 45-minute 2-person lessons.
