Château Élan Winery & Resort, a 16th century-styled château and winery in North Georgia’s picturesque foothills, selected Troon to manage the golf and clubhouse food and beverage operations at the Château Élan Golf Club – which features two 18-hole championship golf courses and a nine-hole par 3 short course.

The resort and daily-fee operation also offers an intriguing “Wee Links” short game practice facility for guests to practice putting, chipping, pitching and bunker play.To further assist golfers with their short games, Château Élan is now home to a Dave Pelz Golf School, with one-day clinics as well as two and three-day schools available throughout the year. Pelz is widely recognized as one of the leading experts in putting and the short game.

Turfgrass management is a major part of operations for all areas of the golf facility, including the  range. Being able to monitor and address concern areas is top of list for most superintendents. As with most things these days, there’s an app for that. The Turfgrass Products by Groundskeeper Tech mobile app, developed by Rutgers graduate Michael D’Ascanio, is a square-foot mapping system that provides exact fertilizer estimates via your mobile phone. The product features Google satellite images and provides instant calculations. It also lets the superintendent or landscaper know how much product to purchase.

As the PGA of America stays committed to ensuring its members and golf industry professionals are equipped to advance their careers to the highest level through its recent repositioning of its PGA Career Services Department, the trend of PGA Professionals becoming facility General Managers continues. A total of 80 PGA Members were either promoted, hired or declared as a General Manager at public, private or resort facilities nationwide during Q2 2018. With 101 additional GMs declared during the Q1, a total of 181 PGA Members were classified as a General Manager during the first half of the year.
