Renowned short game instructor Larry Rinker has been appointed PGA director of instruction at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club Orlando in Grande Lakes, Florida. The 18-hole Greg Norman championship design is the host of the PNC Father/Son Challenge. A 30-year member of the PGA of America, Rinker is one of the most sought-after short game instructors in the country. His career includes 525 PGA Tour starts.
A homemade practice range helped 15-year-old Charlie Nikitas of Chicago place fifth in the first American Junior Golf Association tournament of the year. Because Chicago winters limit his opportunity to practice, Charlie and his father built a hitting station in the back of the family’s headed three-car garage. Complete with an 11-foot net and an artificial hitting mats. In addition, they constructed a putting green in the basement using carpet and foam.
Air Force athletics inducted golf coach Gene Miranda into its hall of fame. For a total of 28 years, Miranda led the Academy to a 185-5 dual record, a .972 winning percentage, and coached 10 All-American golfers. His golf teams won over 50 college tournaments and he had at least one player qualify for the NCAA championships 14 times. While at the Academy, he also wrote and organized the entire cadet golf instruction program.
TaylorMade-adidas Golf took over the practice range at The Grand Del Mar (California) last month. The brand invited media from around the country as they showcased the entire 2015 lineup of products, including the newly released Tour Preferred EF wedges.
