Golf Range Magazine: When did you get your start in golf, and who got you into the game?
Buzza: I grew up in Lafayette, California, and my journey in golf began during a family trip to Scotland to visit relatives. It was there that my older brother Bryan watched The Open Championship and became instantly hooked on the game. Inspired by what he saw, Bryan took his first golf lesson during that trip, and his enthusiasm quickly spread to the rest of the family.
That experience sparked a lifelong passion for golf. I got my first job in the golf industry soon after and have been immersed in the game ever since. Today, both Bryan and I are golf instructors, and we owe so much to this incredible sport that has profoundly shaped our lives.
Golf Range Magazine: Did you play golf in high school or college, and when did you know you wanted to be a PGA of America Golf Professional?
Buzza: I played golf throughout high school and continued at Penn State, where I competed on the varsity golf team. My interest in becoming a PGA of America Golf Professional was also sparked by my brother, who attended the Professional Golf Management Program (PGM) at New Mexico State University. Inspired by his journey, I decided to pursue my own path in the industry and enrolled in Penn State’s PGM program, majoring in Golf Management. This combination of education and competitive experience solidified my passion for a career in golf.
Golf Range Magazine: What’s trending in your programming and instruction at The Ronny Golf Park?
Buzza: Since moving to Texas last year and rebuilding my business, I’ve focused on offering specialized programming that meets the needs of golfers at every level. One of my specialties is AimPoint Green Reading, which has allowed me to collaborate with professionals across the region. I strongly believe that bringing in guest instructors not only enhances the learning experience but also builds client loyalty by prioritizing their best interests and development.
Another area of success has been my women’s programs. These group sessions have become incredibly popular because they create a supportive, relatable community. Women often thrive in this environment, finding the shared journey of learning and improving both empowering and enjoyable.
One standout success story from these programs is a group of beginners who initially joined to simply learn the basics of golf. Over time, their confidence and skills grew to the point where they now play regularly together and have even started entering local tournaments. Moments like this remind me how impactful a strong program can be in transforming lives through golf.
Golf Range Magazine: What is your favorite part of the game of golf? The business of golf?
Buzza: My favorite part of golf is the connections it creates. Whether it’s spending quality time with friends and family on the course or meeting new people who share a love for the game, golf has a unique way of bringing people together.
When it comes to the business of golf, what I love most is that it never feels like work. I’m passionate about what I do and feel incredibly fortunate to have found a career that aligns so perfectly with my purpose. Helping others improve their game and experience the joys of golf is truly fulfilling.
Golf Range Magazine: What does the future hold in golf for you? What’s on the horizon in teaching and mentorship as a proven leader in golf coaching and instruction?
Buzza: Since moving to Texas, I’ve embraced the opportunity to rebuild and grow my business. This journey has inspired me to continually refine my teaching methods and develop innovative programs that address the needs of today’s golfers.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to expand my offerings for women, including unique programs that have never been available in North Texas. These will include retreats and golf schools designed to create transformative learning experiences while fostering community and connection.
Additionally, I’m currently writing and preparing to publish my first books, which are set to release in 2025. These projects are a reflection of my passion for teaching and mentorship, and I can’t wait to share my insights with a broader audience. The future is filled with opportunities to continue shaping the game of golf and empowering others through coaching and leadership.
