Dave Bahr: Host Off-Season Events

Dave Bahr, the 2018 Southern Ohio Section Horton Smith Award winner, is the PGA Head Professional at Maketewah Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Maketewah Country Club hosts several off-season events, including two putting tournaments, at the club’s indoor practice center, which includes a 3,000-square-foot putting green. The Snowflake Tournament is a member/member held in December with a nine-hole matches/best ball format. There are 30 teams and five flights, with the winners plus three wild cards ending up in an alternate shot shootout. “The members love the camaraderie and playing golf when there is not much else to do golf-related during the cold Ohio winters,” PGA Head Professional Dave Bahr says. The Founders Cup, an individual match play event played over the course of the winter, involves about 200 players. A single elimination event consisting of 18-hole matches, the tournament kicks off in November and each round is completed within two to three weeks. The finals take place the first week in March, and the winner receives a crystal trophy as well as the honor of having his or her name on the Championship Board. “Both the Snowflake and Founders Cup putting tournaments are extremely well received and add value to membership and the club by increasing use throughout the year,” Bahr said.
