Andrew Brewer: Offer Monthly Practice Plans

Andrew Brewer is the PGA of America Director of Instruction at Bayville Golf Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Andrew Brewer on the importance of offering monthly practice plans:
I’ve recently started offering monthly practice plans . I was inspired to do this by seeing the success that the fitness team at our facility had in offering custom monthly workout programs. He was constantly being asked by his clients what exercises they should be doing between sessions. He felt it wasn’t right to be expected to do this additional work without compensation, so he decided to start creating workout programs and charge his clients a monthly fee for it. As golf coaches, we have all been asked to write up a practice plan or send them session notes. I started by sending an email to the members announcing that I will be offering customized monthly practice plans. I use the “CoachNow” app to provide individuals access to the exercises and drills. I create the monthly plan in a spreadsheet and then send them the document with a new practice plan each month. During the session, I will record the drills we are working on and directly upload the video to the app. This saves me time, as I don’t have to spend extra time outside of the individual session recording videos. The monthly practice plan includes drills for full swing, short game and putting. I also track their progress over time and monitor whether they are completing the practices I’m assigning them. In the past, I would assign drills, but would rarely see them spend time working on them. Since offering this monthly program, I’ve seen golfers on the range working on the exercises and drills. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. If I send out the monthly practice plans a day later than I normally would, I immediately get calls and texts from individuals asking about their practice plan.
Andrew Brewer on the business impact of offering monthly practice plans:
I charge $100 per month for a monthly practice plan. If a 12-pack or 24-pack session is purchased, I include the monthly practice plan in the price. This has helped me acquire more long-term players. I’ve had golfers who normally take one-off sessions start purchasing my packages because they wanted to have a monthly practice plan. I’ve even had members who I do not coach sign up for monthly practice plans. I think introducing a monthly practice plan is ideal for coaches who want to raise their rates or eliminate discounts because it allows you to provide additional value in a time-efficient way.
